Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is a type of relaxation massage, carefully adapted to ensure the safety and comfort of an expectant mother and her baby. It focuses on relaxation and relieving the aches and discomfort that can be experienced during pregnancy – especially helpful for destressing, reducing fluid retention and relieving lumbar & hip discomfort. Pregnancy massage is great from the second trimester onwards (not recommended during the first trimester).

The Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

While pregnancy is usually a very special and exciting time, the changes and strain that it can put on your body can cause discomfort and make it difficult to rest comfortably. Pregnancy massage can help relieve some of the issues that women tend to experience.

  1. Relieve pain: lower back pain, hip pain and other common pregnancy aches and pains can be relieved by targeting these areas of tension.

  2. Reduce fluid retention: pregnancy massage can help to increase lymphatic drainage, improving circulation and reducing the swelling that often occurs and legs and feet during pregnancy.

  3. Reduce stress: pregnancy can sometimes be a time of anxiety while continuing to juggle a busy life, often with less energy. A pregnancy massage allows an expectant mother to take time out to relax and destress, which benefits a mother’s well-being as well as her growing baby’s.

  4. Improve posture: As your pregnancy progresses and your centre of gravity moves, it can be hard to maintain a good posture. By relieving muscle tension, pregnancy massage can help to maintain and improve posture through the lower back and shoulders.

  5. Improve sleep: Perhaps the most common of complaints (especially in later pregnancy), a lot of women struggle with sleep. By easing discomfort and promoting relaxation, pregnancy massage can help improve quality of sleep.
